A is the 5th (Mixolydian) tone of the D Major Scale

The Mixolydian Scale is favored by many Rock and/or Blues players. The change to the original scale is flatting the 7th tone. In the case of A Mixolydian, found within the D Major scale, you are changed the G# to a G. This is a relatively easy adjustment to make since only one scale tone changes from the Major scale. Easy fingering adjustment but there is a challenge is utilizing this mode effectively.
