Early Rock Guitar Bible
June 1, 2004
Beginner to Advanced Guitarist
(Anyone who like to play that Rock and Roll music)
One Sentence Synopsis
A great collection of 50s and early 60s Rock and Roll.
Get it here.
This is / was part of the Hal Leonard Recorded Versions Guitar series and includes "authentic transcriptions with notes and tablature" as stated on the cover of the book.
The song selection is taken out of the 50s and 60s and is definitely aligned with the early school of recorded rock n' roll music.
There are approximately 35 songs presented and these include early Rock n' Roll guitar classics such as:
Oh, Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison
(Ghost) Riders in the Sky by Dick Dale
Rebel Rouser by Duane Eddy
Oh Boy by Buddy Holly and the Crickets
Rockin' Robin by Bobby Day
All Shook Up by Elvis Presley
Sleepwalk by Santo and Johnny
Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and His Comets
(nice solo lesson and downloadable tab found here)
Louie Louie by the Kingsmen
(what do they say on that recorded version? Lyrics are included but I am not sure we will ever truly know and therein lies the magic.)
I am never able to attest to the pinpoint accuracy of tablature but all of the tabs and notation within the covers certainly convey the essence of the original recordings and are probably accurate to the degree possible. Hal Leonard and company have been doing this for some time and the material stands the test of stage play.
Early Rock n' Roll still reflects youthful enthusiasm and the absolute, unfiltered joy of being young. This exuberance is reflected is almost every song in this collection, and, best of all, remains both infectious and contagious. Bust out your best white socks and get out on that hardwood gym floor. Go cat go and all of that stuff.
It might not be a stretch to say no Bill Haley no XXXXXXXXXXX (insert your band name here).
The vitality of this music is palpable. The exhilaration and excitement of Rock n' Roll is just waiting to be unleashed. Value your youth before it sadly and inevitably fades away.
Go ahead and seek this out.
We recommend it.
This is still posted on Amazon with a "See All Buying Options" choice. Pretty pricey in new condition but sort of reasonable in the used selections.
